W. Pennings & Sons, Inc. is celebrating 50 years in business this year! Since incorporating in Michigan in 1976, the company has grown from 4 owners providing sub-contracted framing and carpentry labor, into a multifaceted full range residential construction company comprised of Pennings & Sons and Pennings Handyman employing an average 45 great employees tuned in to our core values of: honesty and integrity, a commitment to client satisfaction, respectfulness, positive perspective, and efficiency and productivity.
Begun by Wilbur (father) and Bruce (son) Pennings, the company has remained family owned throughout its entire history. Almost all local Pennings’ family members have worked for the company at some time in its history, in some capacity, and some still do. Second generation sons Brad and Brian Pennings are both in various stages of retirement. Following a 25-year transition plan, grandson Scott Pennings is presently the third-generation owner. Other third generation grandchildren employees include Kenny Pennings and Tami Caperton.
One of its goals to honor Wilbur’s legacy is to: “Do it right the first time!” There is a great desire to continue to build the company legacy through the work done while touching the lives of clients, trade contractors , vendors and employees (current and former) in a positive way through relationships and personal as well as professional interaction.
The company will celebrate 50 years in various ways over 2026. Sincere thanks to the Kalamazoo area for trusting in the Pennings brand and contributing to the success of the company during this time.
The company currently enjoys serving a 30 mile radius of the local Kalamazoo community by “Building Character into Homes” mostly through design/remodeling and providing handyman services, although it also provides some design/building of new homes as well.
